Hello everyone! What's up? Haha. Since it seems I have a little bit of an audience- I thought I'd say "hello". By the way? Where do you all come from? I would love to know who my regular readers are! Anyways...
Music: None. Just listening to TV. it's in the other room. I was watching "Change Of Heart" but now I'm listening to "Celebrity Justice".
What am I wearing? Again? Don't you ever get bored with that? Ok- so I'm wearing a white tank top. And denim shorts. Comfy. Also it's '93 degrees outside- so I'm very confortable in my air-conditioned livingroom.
NEWS: Can you believe about the black-outs in New York? Actually- all over the North East?!! It's crazy. Did the electricity go on yet? I haven't really heard much since last night. I feel so bad for everyone- it's crazy.
My Aunt Emmie called up from the West Coast last night to make sure that we were all ok. She was so excited- because when big events like this happen- they just seem to bring people together- give something for everyone to talk about. Aunt Emmie is my oldest AUnt, and married to the rock Star- Asher Daniels. he's the lead singer of this band called 1313.
So anyway- here's Aunt Emmie's big black-out story:
Aunt Em went to New York for two weeks in 1977 to visit her cousins (my 2nd cousins) in Brooklyn New York. This was the summer of 1977. Em was 12 years old. She, and her cousin Rena, and her Uncle Dominic, and Aunt Betty all went to Rockaway State Park in Brooklyn. While they were there- Em and Betty were sunbathing a few feet away from their Aunt and Uncle.
Two guys in their early 20's came over to the girls. "Hey!" they were trying to flirt. The girls ignored them. Em went to the lifeguard chair and climbed up in it. By this time no one was swimming, and the lifeguards had left. The guys walked over to Em. "Are you going to save me?" The guy with the really long hair asked.
"Sorry- I don't know how to swim." Em replied. And coninued to write. She was working on one a new song.
"Oh. The why are you sitting on that chair?" He joked. Trying to flirt with her.
"I'm writing a song." snapped Em.
Now he was really intrigued. "Oh really? Wow- I have a band! I'm a guitar player in a band. Can I come up there and sit with you?"
By this time Em's Italian Uncle Dom was getting uneasy. He walked over. Em saw him coming. "Sure you can get up here. But I'm jumping down." And with that Em jumped off the lifeguard chair. The two guys stood there ready to challenge the Italian Uncle.
"What do you guys want?" Asked Uncle Dom.
"Um. We just want to talk to the girls." replied the long-haired guitarest.
"Why? How old are you guys?" Uncle Dom insisted.
"Um.. I'm 22, and he's 23. My name is Danny by the way."
Now Uncle Dom was furious. "Do you know how old these girls are? She (pointing to Em) is 12 years old. And she (pointing to rena) is 14."
And with that comment- Danny's friend- a chubby bearded guy fell off of a railing he was sitting on, and onto the sand- laughing hysterically.
"You're only 12 years old?!!!" Danny asked. "Really?"
Emmie knodded. She didn't think it was such a big deal. College guys always made comments about her- so what. She was smart enough to walk away. Besides- she liked "cute guys"- not old guys. LOL. Though she did marry a rocker type- maybe this event was an influence.
Now what does this event have to do with the black-out of 1977? Chill!! I'm getting to that!
The boys continued to talk a little bit to the girls, and Uncle Dom. Small talk- about the beach, etc. And then it was getting dark, and they went on their way. The girls were flattered that these older guys took an interest in them, and Uncle Dom was more nervious then ever- about allowing these girls to walk around by themselves. But Danny and his friend turned out to be nice, and walked away gracefully.
Emmie watched Danny walk away- and noticed that it was getting dark. But not just dark- REAL dark.
As the group walked towards the car- they noticed the street light going out - section by section. "Maybe they're trying to scare us off the beach." commented Aunt Betty.
Uncle Dom looked across that water at Queens. "Oh really? Then why are all the lights out across at Queens?" At that point they all realized they were in the middle of a black-out. The Black-out of 1977...
Emmie remembered walking back to the car in total darkness- wondering where Danny went. And where he was when he first realized that they were all in a black-out. Emmie gets a kick out of saying that she and her family were first at the beach when the "lights went out in New York in 1977."
What a cool story!! Ok. I'm tired. I'll write more later- alligator.
